I have been seeing the "checkered trend" everywhere and at first, I thought of it as another ridiculous high fashion piece you would only see on the runway. It wasn't until I saw Taylor Swift rocking a checkered dress on a magazine cover that I fell in love with this look and realized that you can actually incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe! Louis Vuitton and Chanel have these down:
As you can see, you will need a slip with the majority of these pieces. It will tone it down and make it more appropriate to wear out. I think that because Louis Vuitton has always had the checkered look with their purses and wallets (even belts and shoes), is the reason they have this look down perfectly.
This is very 60s mod, and I love it so much. I've been so obsessed with the 50s and 60s lately. They really have the colors down too! You would see these around that time era:
The piece Miranda Kerr is wearing is one you do not need a slip with. The dress is so simply styled and sheath, but the checkers make it so amazing! She is wearing it so right too. The slick ponytail, the matching heels, and her clutch with just a bit of colored lips. You don't want overwhelming colors or accessories with this dress because it is so dominant.
Chanel is a little different. I personally like Louis Vuitton's collection better, but Chanel is fantastic as well! Also, you can wear these for a night out. I really like the strapless blue dress. I would wear it out with a white blazer. Chanel has decided to cross lines to checker instead of different colored blocks. Both great looks!
If you think it stops there, you're wrong!
Emporio Armani is in with checkers too!
As you can see, all designers did this look a bit different. Armani did a "50's bathroom tile" look instead of 60s mod. I am really happy you can actually take a runway piece this season and wear it out, when most runway pieces stay on the runway.
If I had the money, I would get the Louis Vuitton yellow checkered see through dress (the piece Miranda is wearing) as well as the strapless blue Chanel dress and The Armani blazer!
I am so happy with all these pieces. I would be ecstatic if I had them in my closet!
